Madison Sports Group is excited to announce 2012 Tour de France champion, Sir Bradley Wiggins, will join Channel 7’s commentary team at Six Day Melbourne as they gear up to provide full coverage of the three-day event.

Offering unparalleled knowledge and insight, Wiggins joins Channel 7 in broadcasting the inaugural Australian edition of the Series.

“With Six Day Melbourne a part of the Summer of Cycling in Victoria – sporting and big event fans will get a taste of how exciting track cycling is. I can’t wait to get back to Melbourne and be part of this world-class event,” Wiggins said.

A former champion on the track, Wiggins made the rare transformation into a Grand Tour winner – highlighted by his performance at the 2012 Tour de France.

Outspoken with a dry sense of humour, he is respected across the entire cycling industry and remains the only rider to have combined winning World and Olympic championships on both the track and the road, along with winning the Tour de France and holding the track hour world record.

The 38-year-old played a major role in helping to shape British cycling into the world heavyweight it is today.

Madison Sports Group Chief Executive Officer, James Durbin, said Wiggins was a significant endorsement for the event.

“You won’t find a more renowned cycling voice,” Durbin said.

“He brings a unique perspective to the sport – fans hang off every word he says.

“His career speaks for itself and I can’t wait for him to join the team at Channel 7 in providing a world-class broadcast of such a great event.”

In a big win for cycling fans and sport enthusiasts alike, Six Day Melbourne will be broadcast across the channels of 7 as well as online on 7plus – offering unique access to the exciting format.

Olympic champion and cycling guru Scott McGrory will join Wiggins as part of the telecast.

A combination of bikes, beats and beers, the Six Day Series takes a traditional form of cycling and mixes it with an exciting party atmosphere to form the ultimate sporting event. Riders from Australia and abroad are looking to make the trip down under to what is set to be a knock-out show.

The Australian edition of the series will be an action-packed three-day event with all the usual Six Day track racing formats, including the Madison, time trials, team eliminations, scratch races and points races in a spectacular arena environment.

Six Day Melbourne will be held on 7, 8, 9 February, 2019 at Melbourne Arena with the Series Final held in Brisbane 12, 13, 14 April, 2019 at the Anna Meares Velodrome. The next Six Day event kicks off in Berlin on January 24, 2019.
