Designed for children aged six to eight years old, an 18 inch bicycle is good alternative for a kids second bike after learning the basics on a 12in, 14in or balance bike . BikeExchange has a wide range available in both boys and girls options. More information on 18in kids bikes can be found below.
Whilst much of the bike industry keep to the wheel sizes of 12, 16, 20 and 24 inch, some brands, such as Byk, skip the industry's more common 16in size in favour for a larger 18in wheel. The larger wheel size will typically offer greater stability, a smoother ride and increased speed. Much like 16in bikes, 18in bikes will usually feature similar accessories, colour options and training wheels as standard. When considering an 18in kids bike, ensure your child is tall enough to manage the larger wheel size.
“Should my child move to a 16inch or 18inch bike after learning the basics?”
It’s a common consideration faced by parents. Whilst there is no definite answer, there are a few things to take into account. Where 16in kids bikes are recommended for children between 110 to 120cm in height, 18in bikes are designed for children between 115 and 130cm in height. Much of this choice is likely to be decided by your budget and brand preference.
