There is no shortage of options to grab a drink in Ballarat, but to make things a little easier we’ve handpicked three of the finest.
So where are some of the best beers in Ballarat? In no order of preference, we think you should be making a beer-line to:
Hop Temple
24-28 Armstrong Street, North Ballarat
The Hop Temple only opened its doors in September of 2015, but has instantly become a hidden gem in the centre of Ballarat.
As the name suggests, The Hop Temple is devoted to beer. There are 16 beers on tap that change regularly to provide you with the best beers of the season. You can even gaze into the impressive keg room, showcasing all the various beers that are currently on tap.
In addition to the tap beer options, there are a dozen lagers, over 40 ales, porters, stouts, and an equally impressive line-up of whiskey options from which to choose. Oh, and cocktails, and wine, and bourbon, rum, tequila… pretty much everything to keep your spirits up (another pun…)
To accompany all of the liquid finery there are shared plates, snacks, pizzas, burgers, schnitzels and even signature jaffles. As the guys say – it’s all about a small menu done well.

Red Duck Brewery
11A Michaels Drive, Alredton
Red Duck is the craft beer specialists of Ballarat, providing their unique beers to local pubs and restaurants.
Scott and the team at Red Duck are all about innovation; last year they produced an astonishing 51 different beers! Red Duck does everything from seasonal beers to one-off creations never to be sampled again. With over 50 beers to choose from, you can select whatever you are in the mood for. A lighter summer ale, or perhaps a heavy stout to warm you through?
The brew house is one of the smallest micro-breweries in Australia, producing everything in-house with the greatest of care. The options are as exotic as they are unique. Hints of coffee, berries, butterscotch, orange and lemongrass are only a few of the taste sensations you’ll salivate over while perusing the Red Duck line-up.

The Mallow
20 Skipton St, Ballarat
The Mallow on Skipton St has a great feel about it and is instantly welcoming.
The Mallow specialises in traditional pub food done flawlessly as well as ‘gastropub’ options. The team here was pretty much one of Ballarat’s pioneers of craft beer, and you can tell.
Local craft beer and cider is well represented at The Mallow with 12 dedicated taps and many more bottled options. You can enjoy a local ale with your mates in the front bar, or sit down in the dining room for full table service.
