Swiss craftsmanship is known all over the world. It's good to know that Swiss engineers are also quite capable. Because if you want a professional bike, you've come to the right place at the Swiss bike manufacturer BMC. The company's concentrated know-how flows into developing premium bikes and researching innovative technologies that make the brand's bikes renowned. Of course, the pioneering inventions of the Swiss outfit are not only available to top athletes, but also trickle down to commuters and everyday riders. BMC bikes strive for perfection, whether on the road, off-road or on the bike path.
The name BMC stands for Bicycle Manufacturing Company and thus blatantly represents what the Swiss are all about - making bicycles. The beginnings of the brand go back to the year 1986, but were not marked by the in-house development of bikes. The American Bob Bigelow founded the company to distribute Raleigh bikes, and only after the license expired did they start building their own bikes. Cutting their teeth on mountain bikes, despite innovative innovations such as the Virtual Pivot System damping solution, BMC was not an instant success in its early days and the brand was eventually sold to Andy Rhis, the co-owner of Phonak AG. Since Rhis had his own racing team, which he naturally wanted to equip with new bikes, BMC invested considerably more in development, design and initiated a complete realignment of the brand. As a sponsor of the Phonak team, the company drew global attention for the first time, and it wasn't long before international sales started to flow. Since then, BMC has developed into one of the best-known premium manufacturers of bicycles and is represented at every major cycling event across the MTB and Road calendars with their various team partnerships.
BMC has received special recognition in recent years for its excellent carbon frames. The Swiss company's first CNT full carbon frame licenced from Easton was well received in 2005. For the production of the most advanced frame series, BMC Impec, the company had a fully automated production facility built. Other pioneering additions include the patented Integrated Cockpit System.
Technical precision and high-quality workmanship are paramount at the Swiss company. This not only applies to the perfection of the frame materials. The synchronized p2p concept makes it possible to adjust the handlebar stem and saddle and thus find the optimal posture on the bike, while subA is the aerodynamic optimisation of the racing bike with the smallest possible contact surface. BMC also has a few delicacies up its sleeve for mountain bikes, most notably the Advanced Pivot System, which improved the kinematics, position of the pivot points, translation and size of the shock absorbers.
Road Bikes
The product range of the Swiss is not quite as extensive as that of other established and large manufacturers but is characterised by a consistently high level of quality and performance. Best suited to endurance road riders, the Roadmachine is ideal for anyone who likes to be in the saddle for longer, while the Timemachine models from the Aero series are trimmed for flawless aerodynamics and maximum speed. The Teammachine is the brand's all-around race machine. Masters every climb with flying colours with its ultra-light carbon frame, or speed along the flats with its aero efficiency.
Integration is key across all models in the range, with the brakes and shift cables all hidden within the frame. With ACE technology, the perfect frame is selected from 34,000 computer-generated prototypes that have been virtually tested beforehand. The result: A frame that is not only light but also stiff, in which the down tube, seat tube and chain stays merge in the oversized bottom bracket and ensure an optimal center of gravity.
Mountain Bikes
In the off-road sector, BMC has rides for cross-country riders, trail fans and all-mountain specialists. The Twostroke is a puristic hardtail cross-country bike. Performance is very important here as such, efficiency and low weight are the main arguments for the hardtail, which with its innovative MTT system (Micro Travel Technology) generates improved torsional and lateral rigidity and can be adjusted in three damping levels. In the same vein of performance XC rides, the Fourstroke adds suspension at the frame as well as the fork, as well as a dropper seatpost on models towards to upper end of the price spectrum.
For trail riding enthusiasts, there is the BMC Speedfox , the all-rounder for the rough stuff. With the Advanced Pivot System , which minimizes pedal bobbing and a light, well-responsive frame, the fully is extremely agile and would also have a chance in marathon races. Thanks to the Big Wheel Concept, the Speedfox chassis has been optimally adapted to the large 29-inch wheels.
Urban & Lifestyle If you also want to ride a BMC bike in the city, the best thing to do is to use the versatile and extremely adaptable bikes from the alpenchallenge series . On request, the fitness/urban bikes are available with an extremely low-maintenance toothed belt drive and hub gears, making them your haven of peace in hectic everyday life.
Gravel Bikes
Blending its performance road and race focussed mountain bikes, the BMC gravel bike line-up consists of three models designed for exploration or gravel racing. Standing for UnReStrcited, the BMC URS and URS AL (entry-level aluminium) are ideal adventure companions designed to go beyond roads, expand your horizons and embrace your gravel wanderlust. At the other end of the spectrum is the all-new for 2022, Kaius. Positioned as a premium carbon gravel racing bike, the bike is best thought of as a a Teammachine tuned to the gravel wavelength, with a gravel specific fork, 44mm of tyre clearance, a fully integrated cockpit and compatibility with both 1x and 2x drive trains.
E-Bikes
Despite dipping its toes in the e-bike market with electrically assisted variants of its popular Speedfox trail bike in years gone by, the current BMC e-bike line-up is rod focused. Utilising a Mahle hub drive motor and an integrated battery system, the Roadmachine AMP and Alpenchallenge AMP are designed for endurance and flat bar road riders looking to ride further, faster and with ease.
